Hi and welcome to Bratty Decora!
I’m Laurel and this is my first Bratty Decora blog.
Our website is finally up and open for business! Right now, we have plenty of the Unicorn Keychains and the Cloud Key holders, and many items from Japan which only have 1-2 each. These will be sold primarily on our eBay account for the moment . Sohail and I have been working hard to procure a sweet collection for you and we still have many more items ready to list!. We have PayPal and card options so that your payments are safe when buying from our shop. Please also check out our eBay shop. As our eBay account and shop grow most things will be available both ways so that you can choose to shop the way you feel most comfortable ^_^
As a new company we really appreciate any sales and especially reviews and ratings where applicable. Please give us a like on our Facebook and Instagram and watch our Pintrest!
Many thanks to Kitty Turner for helping me put my thoughts together, Agustina Dowling for creating the adorable logo and mascots and to Carren Hazel Centeno for fixing up this amazing little website, and to our friends who have supported us and gave us advice.
I wanted to say a few words about the aesthetic of this small business venture.
Believe it or not, cute used to be far from my taste.
Like many assigned female, I found the mainstream version of girlhood limiting and honestly quite dull. I often avoided things which lined up with social expectations, both in my personal interests and in how I wished to look. And like many others, I fell into the “not like the other girls” trap, developing toxic views of femininity, believing my stance to be a progression from outdated gender roles.
It wasn’t until I was older and actively not identifying with womanhood that my relationship with things considered feminine began to heal. I realized that the stigma around being a girly girl, or a girly boy or any person engaging with things labelled as girly, had become internalized, creating a tension around anything women and girls were typically expected to like. Various experiences over the years opened my eyes to how useless of a burden that was to carry around with me.
I still believe that gender roles do little to help the world, but that expression of all kinds can be a wonderful thing. My own identity is an ongoing journey, but I believe without a doubt that no matter who we are we should be allowed to like feminine things. Every one of us.
Because being cute is not a crime.
The world would like to tell you that you are too old, or that cute things aren’t for boys or men. We may feel like our gender is invalidated by engaging with pretty and pink. We may think people will find us shallow for liking these things. But these ideas are all so wrong.
Cute things can make everyone feel good. That’s what Bratty Decora is about – Being cute and spreading happiness.
